Sanju Samson in ODI Team for Sri Lanka series? What about MS Dhoni?

The talented young wicketkeeper Sanju Samson can be in contention for the limited overs series against Sri Lanka. Sanju Samson has been in prolific form in the domestic circuit in the Ranji Trophy and can be rewarded for his fine performances. It is reported that his fine form can earn him a place in the national side.

Samson has thus far played one T20I for the Indian team when he was given a chance in 2015 against Zimbabwe. Samson has scored 561 runs in the five matches in the ongoing Ranji Trophy and had also scored a fine century for Board’s President XI against Sri Lanka in the warm-up match.

This is a sign that selectors are looking at the future of Indian cricket.

The Chairman of Selectors MSK Prasad is pleased with the current form of the young sensation and said that his form augurs well for the selectors as they are looking for more options.

Prasad told Times of India, “It’s good to see that Sanju Samson has been amongst the runs this season. He has been consistent. It augurs well for him and it’s good for us since we will have more options to deliberate on”.

MS Dhoni’s form has been under the spotlight in the T20Is.
Rishabh Pant hasn’t been able to grab his opportunities and it is understandable that selectors can turn their faces towards Sanju Samson. India’s former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has also been under the scrutiny after he played an uncharacterised knock in the second T20I against New Zealand. Dhoni had to draw a lot of criticism after his innings and many former players mooted that Dhoni should ponder T20I retirement.

Dhoni albeit had got the backing of the team as skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri had put their weight behind the legend. It would be interesting to note whether Sanju would be drafted in the limited over series as a backup keeper to MS Dhoni.
