Sourav Ganguly Chooses Between Virat Kohli and Steve Smith

The 'Debate' regarding who is a better batsman between Indian star batsman Virat Kohli and Australian Steve Smith has begun once again with the conclusion of the Nagpur Test and the Ashes opener.

Both Virat Kohli and Steve Smith- are regarded as best batsmen of the modern era, and always lead from the front for their respective countries with the bat. They continuously follow each other and are always at the center of discussion.

The matter came to the light after both the star batsmen played match-winning innings for their respective teams- against Sri Lanka and England in Ashes 2017-18.

The Indian skipper scored 213 and in the process broke many records as well as led his team to victory against Sri Lanka in the second Test, while the Australian skipper hit an unbeaten 141 to help the hosts to post big total against England and win the Brisbane Test. These stellar performances from both Kohli and Steve Smith brought back the discussion once again.

The 29-year-old Indian right-hander has 15,000 runs across all formats of the game under his belt, while Aussie right-hander has done incredibly well with the bat, amassing 9,000 international runs.

This time legendary Indian batsman Sourav Ganguly has jumped into the 'Debate'. The former Indian captain has come up with his opinion over – who is the better batsman between Kohli and Smith.

Although, Ganguly said both players are right up at international level at the moment, but chose to go with the Indian run-machine, as Kohli’s energy and hunger made him special in Dada’s sight.

Speaking to India Today, Sourav Ganguly said, “Let's not compare Steve Smith and Virat Kohli. For me, both of them are right up there and they are the two best batsmen in the world at the moment. Virat Kohli is special. I've seen players and I've played with the greats. His energy, his hunger, the way he turns tables around from the way he keeps scoring runs is phenomenal. Hopefully, he can carry this forward and do even better.”

Both centuries are quite different from each other as Smith might have scored against a tougher opposition while Kohli’s double ton also was key behind India taking a huge lead in the first innings.

Ganguly concluded by saying, “Steve Smith is a champion batsman if you compare both the hundreds today maybe in terms of the bowling quality England was a better bowling attack than Sri Lanka. But that doesn't take anything away from Kohli. You play what you get and I think he has been fantastic.”
